Lord God thank you for inviting us to banquet, that is a day I look forward to attending. Lord thank you for this opportunity to speak to your people and even those that you are drawing close to the cross,. Lord direct my thought so that I will only convey your truth, in Jesus name Amen.

Blessed is he who shall eat bread in the kingdom of God.

Brothers and sisters be of good cheer. You have been invited to the wedding banquet of the King. Being invited is really a big deal, especially coming from the King. You were not only invited more importantly you accepted the invitation.  Jesus spoke on the matter and said” The Kingdom of heaven is like a certain King who arranged a marriage for His Son. “and he sent out his servants to call those who were invited to the wedding; and they were not willing to come. again, he sent out other servants, saying  “tell those who are invited, “See I have prepared my dinner; my oxen and fat  cattle are killed and all things are ready. come to the wedding .” (Matt 22:2-4).

Marriage Custom

The Asian custom in antiquity concerning marriages was that they were arranged by their parents. This arrangement was called betrothal. It is a legally binding contract between the parents of the bride and the groom. Once they are betrothal, the couple is considered married. However the marriage is not consummated. Once the betrothal takes place the announcement is made so that everyone would know that the invitation will follow shortly. usually the groom live at his fathers’  house. for about a year, during this time He is preparing a place for His wife. After one year when everything is ready, the groom comes back for his bride. While he is still far off but and yet so near his servants sound off the trumpet and shouts the bride groom comes. This is done so that his bride and her family know to get prepared for the bridegroom when he arrive..

The Banquet is Ready

The king sent out his servants to let everyone know that the banquet is ready. They refused to come. The king being a very understanding gave his people the benefit of not knowing the urgency of the matter.  He sent a second more urgent request for their presence at the banquet. ” But they paid no attention to this and went away, one to his farm, another to his business. The rest grabbed the kings servants and treated them brutally, and then killed them. Then the king became outraged. He sent his troops and they destroyed those murderers and burned the city”(Matt 22:5-7).

The Kings’ People

The People invited were the kings subjects. They were noblemen, dukes, and lords. People who were in leadership positions over the kings people. The invitation also went out to the citizens of the kingdom. To refuse the Kings’ invitation to such a important function is an outrage, contempt. The King son is getting married and the king has prepared the feast and invited all His subjects to come and celebrate with him. The King was very gracious. The kings people rejected such a wonderful provision of Grace .

The Kings’ Determination

“Then he said to his servants, the wedding is ready, but those who were invite  were not worthy. So go into the roads leading out of town and invite as many people as you can find to the wedding.’ those servants went out into the streets and brought all the people they found, evil and good alike, and the wedding hall was packed (Matt 22:8-10). All who were invited and refused the invitation for what ever foolish reason were considered unworthy. So the king now sends out his invitation to all the people who are not his subjects, the people who are in the street , good and evil alike , no matter who they are or what they did. The king want the banquet hall filled.\ Amen!.

When the king came to see the guest, he noticed a man there who was not wearing wedding clothes. He said to him, “friend, how did you get in here without wedding clothes? But the man was speechless. The the king told his servants, tie his hands and feet, and throw him into the outer darkness! In that place there will be weeping and gnashing of teeth. For many are invited, but few are chosen”(Matt 22:11-14).

You must be properly dressed for the occassion

Before the people who took the king up on his invitation could enter into the wedding hall,  they had to put on their wedding garment, good and bad all fall short of the glory of God.  The king says that everyone has to come in the same way. However when the king entered into the banquet hall he noticed that someone was there improperly dressed. The king asked him friend how did you get in here without wedding clothes?

 Conclusion

The king in this parable is God, The Kings’ Son is Christ. The invited guess were the scribes and the pharisee, and the Sadducee’s, the scribes and the Jewish people. The Jewish people attitude toward Jesus was so negative that enmity at this point has reached the highest pitch, and they were bent on murdering Him. They murdered the prophets  the king sent. They even killed the greatest prophet who is the Kings Son. The grace of God was scornfully rejected by the Jews and now the invitation goes out to the gentiles. People who were not Gods’ people. people who the Jews deemed unworthy of Gods’ grace. The gentiles responded to the invitation of whosoever will let them come. The wedding feast is ready, the Son has paid the price and has risen to take his bride. The gentiles have filled up the wedding hall, Good and bad all are sinners’ and fall short of Gods’ glory.    God is still not satisfied He wants more people to come to the banquet. In order to come you must be invited, which you are. Now all you have to do is put on the wedding clothes. That clothes is Jesus. Jesus said I am the way and the truth and the life no one can come to my father unless by me.. Amen

God bless you.
